If you’re asking yourself

Can I join BSMTC?

The answer is… YES!

Our Company welcomes everyone whether you want to perform on stage, work backstage, or simply just
support us!

If you want to be a performing member,  you will need a

Membership Audition

( Don't worry - we're lovely )

If you would like to perform with us you will need to attend an informal audition, where you will be asked to demonstrate good vocal ability and acting skills. This is not as scary as it sounds we promise! At an audition you will be seen individually by up to 3 Committee members and you can sing a song of your choice, or we can provide you with some suitable musical theatre numbers to choose from. You will also be asked to perform a piece of dialogue, or a monologue – you can use a script we provide or bring
your own.
If you are successful you will be asked to pay an annual membership subscription which is collected in January of each year.

Performing members annual subscription: £40

Please keep an eye on our website and social channels for information on future auditions.

We are delighted to always welcome applications for non-performing members i.e. backstage helpers, stage crew, mic technicians, production and helping front of house.  These positions can be a great opportunity to get to know everyone and get involved if you plan to join us in 2025 or wish to gain backstage experience!

If you want to be a performing member,  you will need a

Show Audition

(You will get a chance to run through the songs with the Musical Director before the actual audition)

Performing members are eligible to audition for shows and other performances.

If you are interested in auditioning for a show, we usually have a talk through before we begin the audition process which you can attend, where you can find out about the Director’s vision for the show and pick up audition pieces. Before the actual show auditions then take place we have several rehearsals to help you learn song pieces and choreography.

Performing members also pay a show fee for every show they are cast in.  The show fee does vary according to the requirements for each individual show.

Not interested in performing on stage but want to be involved?

Non-performing members/
supporters

( No audition required! )

You can join BSMTC as a non-performer or simply as a supporter. We are always looking for people to help us out behind the scenes with costumes, sets, props, make up and front of house duties such as selling programmes and raffle tickets. Non performing members are not eligible to audition for shows.

If chosen for a show you will be expected to attend

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are usually held on Wednesday evenings 7.30-10pm in Bishop’s Stortford, but we may decide to use other venues depending on the type of show we are rehearsing and venue availability.

Our main show is performed in November at South Mill Arts in Bishop’s Stortford – you will often be asked to attend additional Sunday rehearsals as we get nearer to the show opening night.

We also put on a Spring Show each year which is performed in May – venues for this can vary but it is often performed in a village hall with full stage and sound/technical equipment.
